Care Information

Pruning
Remove spent flower stems to keep the plant neat and to reduce self-seeding. If the leaves start to look tired later in the season, a light shear usually encourages fresh growth.

Clay, Loam, Sand, Chalk

Cultivation
Growth starts early as the soil warms, forming a low mound of soft, scalloped leaves. Flower sprays appear from late spring into mid-summer. Removing faded flower stems helps keep the clump neat and reduces self-seeding. Water is most important in the first growing season and during long dry spells; once established, the plant copes better with short dry periods. Well-drained soil helps prevent winter losses where beds stay wet for long periods. Older or untidy leaves can be cut back after flowering to encourage a fresh flush later in the season.
Pests
Usually low on pest problems, particularly when the plant is not under stress. If pests do appear, they are most often small sap-sucking insects, and simple garden measures are normally enough.
Diseases
Disease issues are uncommon in normal garden conditions. Good airflow and well-drained soil help avoid most leaf problems.
Propagation
Divide a healthy clump in spring or early autumn, ensuring each section has roots and a few strong shoots. Replant straight away and keep the soil lightly moist until new growth appears.
